The weather was overcast with showers and moderate seas as the boat launched but conditions progressed to a force 8 south westerly gale as the lifeboat approached Malin Head. The lifeboat arrived on scene at 0.45am and the crew assessed that the six fishermen were safe and well before working with them to establish a towline. With a tow set up, the lifeboat proceeded to take the fishing vessel into Lough Swilly. However, with deteriorating weather conditions and with both the tide and wind against them, a decision was made to tow the boat into Greencastle.During what was a slow tow, the lifeboat was assisted by Lough Swilly RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat which launched at 8am and assisted in bringing the fishing boat into Greencastle and putting the boat on its moorings. The Portrush crew arrived back at their station at approximately 1.15pm today.Speaking following the call out, Keith Gilmore, Portrush RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘This has been a long and challenging call out for our volunteers in what were rough weather conditions but they were delighted to have been of assistance to the six fishermen who we would like to commend for doing the right thing and raising the alarm when their boat sustained engine failure. This call out is a fine example of volunteers showing their willingness to forgo a night’s sleep and the comfort of a warm bed and some food and using their skill and experience to face challenging weather conditions to help bring others to safety.’ Loganair’s new Derry – Liverpool air service takes off from CODA WhatsApp Important message for people attending LUH’s INR clinic By News Highland – October 2, 2017 Previous articleDCC’s Fire Service Plan to be discussed again before adoptionNext articleAerosmith’s Steven Tyler denies that he had a seizure last week following gig cancellations News Highland Twitter Homepage BannerNewscenter_img Nine til Noon Show – Listen back to Monday’s Programme Twitter Pinterest Facebook News, Sport and Obituaries on Monday May 24th Google+ Arranmore progress and potential flagged as population grows RNLI releases video footage of trawler rescue off Donegal coast WhatsApp Community Enhancement Programme open for applicationslast_img read more

Amorim Highlights Need for Strong Defense Industrial Base in South America

first_img In a speech opening the Second National Defense Seminar in Brazil, Defense Minister Celso Amorim identified a process of deconcentration of world power and the creation of “a belt of good will between Brazil and its neighbors in South America.” Amorim also stressed the need for a strong defense industrial base as part of a deterrence strategy that can guarantee peace in the South Atlantic. According to the minister, the country should extend this belt to Africa, in the spirit of the South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone. “Despite this, due to the fluidity of international relations, we have to be prepared for a possible external threat. The best way to prevent that is a strong defense that could inflict serious damage on a possible aggressor.” In order to guarantee that plan, aerial, naval, and land resources will be necessary, as foreseen in the National Defense Strategy. The minister recalled that government officials should use peacetime to prepare for possible conflict. “This preparation includes the ability to prevent possible adversities. No sovereign country delegates its defense to third parties,” the minister emphasized. Fighter Purchase With regard to the acquisition of fighter planes, Amorim affirmed that the purchase process may move forward in the first half of the year, but he stressed that the decision belongs to President Dilma Rousseff. “It’s a necessary purchase, but it’s not cheap.” The finalists under consideration are Boeing’s A-18E/F Super Hornet, Dassault’s Rafale, and the Swedish firm SAAB’s Gripen NG. Violence, protest disrupt Id, Sawan festivities in 2 U.P. cities

first_imgDespite the Uttar Pradesh police taking stringent measures to ensure peace on Id-ul-Zuha that fell on the last Monday of the Sawan month of Hindu calendar, two incidents of violence and protest were reported from Budaun and Agra in western Uttar Pradesh. In Budaun, stones were hurled at a kanwariya procession when it was crossing the Islamnagar area on Monday morning. Many kanwariyas were injured in the incident and admitted to a nearby hospital.Police sources said the kanwariyas were playing religious music on loudspeakers when the Muslim residents were preparing to offer the Id namaz. They objected to the music and it led to commotion and stone pelting. The kanwariyas fled the area but returned to protest and blocked the Bisuali Road.Tight security Senior officials of Budaun and Sambhal rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. “Extra police force has been deployed in the area to prevent any backlash,” said Superintendent of Police (rural) Surendra Singh. “An FIR has been lodged by the kanwariyas of nearby Siddhpur village against unknown people for rioting and hurting religious sentiments. We are investigating the charges and counter-charges levelled by both sides. No arrest has been made so far,” Mr. Singh said.In Agra, members of the Bajrang Dal protested against Muslims offering the Id namaz on road in the Khandauli area. A group of 70 Bajrang Dal members from Aligarh was returning from Ayodhya. They were stopped by the police in Khandauli as the residents were offering the namaz on the road. The members of the right-wing group protested and threatened to recite Hanuman Chalisa on the road. Zonal coordinator of Bajrang Dal Ram Kumar Arya said namaz was not allowed to be offered on road meant for public transport.Senior police officers rushed to the spot and ensured that the bus was allowed to pass through.last_img read more

Sarri: Becoming Juventus Coach Is A ‘Crowning Achievement’ (Video)

first_imgThe 34-year-old Ronaldo scored 21 goals in his first Serie A season at Juventus. His single-season record is 48 goals in the Spanish league for Real Madrid in 2014-15.Sarri said that he left Chelsea after only one season because he “felt a need to return to Italy.”He succeeds Massimiliano Allegri, who guided Juventus to five straight Italian titles but was unable to bring home the most desired trophy — the Champions League — despite two runner-up finishes in the top European competition.Sarri reportedly has a massive bonus in his contract if he leads Juventus to the elusive European title.“I’ve never seen a club so determined to hire a coach,” Sarri said. “That convinced me right away.”Sarri struggled with criticism upon his arrival at Chelsea but then led the London club to the Europa League title.“I’ve always had the fans skeptical at the start. I come from a different breed and it’s fair that there’s this skepticism,” Sarri said. “There’s only one way to get through that and that’s to win. We’ve got to go out there onto the pitch to enjoy ourselves and put on a show.”TweetPinShare0 Shares TURIN, Italy — With his attack-minded 4-3-3 formation, new Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri foresees Cristiano Ronaldo setting more scoring records.Sarri was presented Thursday after signing a three-year contract with the club that has won Serie A for the last eight seasons.Sarri called the Juventus job the “crowning achievement of a long and difficult career.”“I’ve taken a long road to get here, from Serie C2 to B, A, Premier League and now Juventus. It’s special to be here. It’s the best squad in Italy,” Sarri said. “I’m coming from Chelsea, which has an inferior history to that of Juventus. It’s another step forward for me.“Coaching Ronaldo is also an escalation. I coached great players at Chelsea but with him it’s the best in the world. He already holds all of the records you can have in world football but I would like help him break some more records.”last_img read more

President Trump Underscores USJamaica Relations

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppUnited States, April 10, 2017 – Washington, DC – United States President, Donald Trump, says he looks forward to working with the administration of Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, on bilateral and regional issues.  The President made the comment during a courtesy call paid on him by Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Audrey Marks, at the Oval Office in the White House.During their discourse, Mr Trump and Ambassador Marks underscored the strong longstanding bond of friendship between the people Jamaica and the United States of America, while noting the island’s contribution in many spheres of American life.Ms Marks said she looked forward to working with the President in the interest of both countries, and highlighted the synergies of the US-Caribbean nexus cementing the relationship between the nations.  The Ambassador, in noting the President’s agenda of providing more trading opportunities for US companies, called attention to the significant trade surplus the North American country enjoys in the Caribbean. She highlighted the fact that the region is the United States’ seventh largest trading partner, importing non-oil goods and services valued over US$50 billion.  This, she said, placed the region ahead of U.S. exports to comparatively larger economies such as Russia and India combined.Ms Marks further noted the mutual benefit and alignment of interest for the continued stability and economic growth of the Caribbean which she described as the United States’ ‘third border’.  The Jamaican envoy also took the opportunity to invite President Trump to visit Jamaica in his official capacity.#USJamaicaRelations Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Related Items:#USJamaicaRelationslast_img read more
