first_img Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagram Thirty five cultural and environmental groups have combined with the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Crete to save olive trees in Crete, which are hundreds and thousands of years old.Centuries-old psilolies olive trees grown in the region constitute proof that extra virgin olive oil was produced there hundreds and probably thousands of years ago.The project aims to document, conserve and protect the heritage olive trees which are spread throughout the rural areas of Crete as they are coming under threat from public works and construction. It will focus on recording the location of the heritage olive trees and their ages in order to produce a map of Crete, which documents the locations where the heritage trees can be found.Furthermore, the groups are hoping to prepare a documentary translated into different languages to be ready by the summer of 2010.last_img
