first_imgFrank Worthington’s daughter has confirmed that the former England striker has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.Kim-Malou Worthington posted on her Facebook page on Thursday to confirm the news, saying: “There has been a few wandering (sic) about my dad’s health recently and so I thought i should let you all know Frank Worthington has Alzhiemers. He was diagnosed several years ago and has been holding it off with POSITIVE thinking and football.”The 67-year-old is well remebered for his time playing for Huddersfield, Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers. He made eight appearances for England in 1974, scoring two goals for the Three Lions.The most memorable moment of his career arguably came whilst playing for the Trotters in 1979.In a game against Ipswich, the skilful forward received the ball on the edge of the box, facing away from goal. He did three keepy-ups, before flicking the ball over his own, and the defenders’, heads, firing a powerful shot into the bottom corner – without once letting the ball touch the ground.You can watch the goal above, on a day where we remember a truly excellent player of the beautiful game…last_img read more
