Former West Indies players Sir Andy Roberts, Jackie Hendriks and David Williams have given the West Indies the edge in the final of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India today. Describing the Caribbean aggregation as best suited for the format, and having the psychological edge after defeating England in the preliminaries, as well as the momentum after overcoming title favourites India in the semi-finals, the trio, however, believes it will come down to application. “I think it’s going to be another win for us,” stated Hendriks, referring in the process to the regional side’s triumph over Sri Lanka four years ago. “They (England) are a good team, but I think that the West Indies are best for this type of cricket. “I think if we keep our heads, our bowling attack can keep them within any total we set, as well as we have the batting to chase down any total they set,” the former wicketkeeper added. Roberts, a member of the pioneering Clive Lloyd-led ICC World Cup 50 overs winning teams of 1976 and 1979, highlighted bowling as the key to victory. “If we bowl well by restricting the amount of sixes, as well as bowling a lot of dot balls, that will be the key to success,” cited Roberts. “We have been bowling well in patches with the spinners, particularly (Samuel) Badree and (Sulieman) Benn, playing extremely well. “However, the medium pacers such as Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite have at times allowed things to slip.” Williams, meanwhile, a wicketkeeper for the West Indies teams in 1990s, and former West Indies assistant coach, believes the strength of the team’s batting will prove decisive. “The Englishmen should have some headaches when we bat,” Williams said. “We have a lot of match-winners, and have picked up some form, and that is worrying for any opposition. “It’s not just Chris Gayle anymore. Lendl Simmons and Johnson Charles have come along, Marlon Samuels and Dwayne Bravo are there, as well as the hitting power of Andre Russell, Darren Sammy and Carlos Brathwaite.”
Last season was a major struggle for QPR both on and off the pitch. It looked at times that there might even be the possibility of the club being relegated to League One. This season is looking a lot rosier with an improved league position. Off the pitch, their finances are also looking a lot healthier thanks to their new sponsorship deal with Royal Panda.Since being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2014/15 season, QPR have rarely been promotion challengers. They have never finished in the top 10 and the past two seasons have seen them flirting with relegation. Their highest placing in the past three seasons has been 16th with the club finishing just two points above the relegation zone in the 2017/18 season. Last term was another frustrating one with a 19th place finish, though they were 11 points above the bottom three. The loss of all that Premier League revenue hit QPR hard. Their 2017 accounts showed that 64% of their turnover was being spent on wages. The club have been suffering heavy losses since their relegation as revenue drops and expenses remain high. That is the situation faced by many teams who fail to return to the top flight even with the parachute payments that are received. That’s not all to worry about though with over £40m in debts being paid to previous owners. Then came the £42m settlement with the English Football League after breaking Financial Fair Play rules. That led to a transfer ban for the January 2019 transfer window, making life even more difficult last season.Good news for the club has been the signing in 2017 of a three-year shirt sponsorship deal with online bookmaker and casino Royal Panda. It was great news too for the sponsors who had only recently received their sports book license to operate in the UK.The sponsorship deal has pumped vital revenue into the club at a time when it was needed. Royal Panda have a strong presence at the club, not just on the shirts worn by their players. Fans can take advantage of special offers from Royal Panda on the QPR website. The deal runs out at the end of the 2020/21 season, who knows by then QPR might be back in the Premier League making a renewal of the deal even more likely. The transfer ban ended this summer and QPR were extremely busy. New manager Mark Warburton revamped the squad with most of the 2018/19 squad leaving and new signings swiftly reaching double figures. Not that Warburton (who used to be a City trader) had a lot of money to rebuild the squad with. His new signings were a mix of loanees and young players who didn’t have a contact with a club.Warburton knew it was a risky move but felt it “was called for.” He knows that the club has owners who “have a vision and a plan” after going through a “pretty tumultuous time.” Making so many changes to a squad can go wrong (ask Everton and West Ham fans) and the bookies believed it would be another season of struggle for QPR.They surprised their critics though and earned 16 points from their first eight league games. QPR found themselves fourth in the Championship table and fans were again dreaming of a return to the Premier League.Form has dipped of late though with a run of only two points from their last five league games. One thing is guaranteed for QPR fans and that is they will see plenty of goals scored. 13 of their 17 league games have had over 2.5 goals scored in them They have netted 27 times in the Championship this season (up to November 23) and only West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End (first and third in the table) have scored more than them. On the flip side though, QPR have conceded 32 league goals and only bottom of the table Barnsley have conceded more. The recent poor run has seen QPR drop to 12th in the Championship. That’s only five points off the final promotion play-off position. After the problems of recent seasons, it’s good to report that QPR are ten points above the relegation zone.2020 could be a big year for the club. Mark Warburton has already been quoted as saying that “anyone in the top 10 come March can sniff the Premier League.” QPR are only behind 10th place on goal difference and few good wins would see them right in the promotion play-off picture.Improving their home league record is one key area where work is needed. Nine home league games this season have produced only three victories at Loftus Road with three draws and three losses. Away form is a case of blowing hot and cold with four win and four defeats. What will QPR do in the January 2020 transfer window? Improving their defensive abilities must be a key aim. When you are averaging nearly two goals conceded in every match, it’s hard to win promotion. There won’t be a great deal of money to spend but a bit more wheeler-dealing in the loan market could just produce the required results.Where does the future lie for the club though? Club owners believe they have outgrown Loftus Road which only has a capacity of just over 18,000, though the average attendance this season is just under 14,000. Club CEO Lee Hoos has described the ground as “unsustainable for a professional football club in the long term. It’s lack of non-match-day use is another reason for wishing to find a new ground. One ambitious plan is to move into a 45,000 stadium. This would be a £425m redevelopment of the Linford Christie athletics stadium. The plan is for the ground to have a pitch that can be lifted turning itself into a roof. That way it wouldn’t be damaged when other events are held. It’s just one of four options that are open to them after the club held discussions with the local council. Others are a bit cheaper with a lower attendance and don’t have that special pitch/roof. Getting things right on the pitch, regardless of whether it can turn into a roof is the key aim in the near future as well as ensuring finances are kept steady and hopefully Royal Panda can help them with that. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Tough weekend on weather. Our front from last Friday cleared the state, but instead of seeing moisture stay along and south of the front on Saturday and Sunday, it worked to the north side of the front, bringing rain in over a large chunk of Ohio Saturday and still lingering Sunday. Things like this happen…but its just a bummer to see Mother Nature humble you at harvest season. If you missed the action and our dry forecast worked out for you…great. Apologies to the rest. But, we live to fight another day.Today we find ourselves in-between two fronts. A cold front to the south still has plenty of moisture with it, and strong low pressure this morning in western TN. This low moves across Western KY and should be into SW Ohio by sunset tonight. To our northwest, a stationary-slash-cold front sits in the Upper Midwest and is working slowly southeast and has some moisture with it. Today will see most of Ohio dominated by the flow from the southern front, and tomorrow, more of an impact from the NW front. Today, the moisture moving from western TN to Ohio will spread moisture up across the southern half to two thirds of the state Tomorrow, as the front from the NW pushes across MI and IN, we see additional rain and thunderstorm action. Showers then hold through most of Wednesday as well. Action finally breaks down and moves away to the east by Wednesday night. We are keeping rain totals at half to 2″ with coverage at 80% of the state. However, in SW OH and in central Ohio, where we see the best threat for thunderstorms, we think we can easily exceed 2.5 inches. The map at right shows combined rain potential now through midday Wednesday. The 3 and 4 inch totals are a little overzealous, in our minds at least, but the spread of moisture on this map is a good representation.Dry for Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. Then we have moisture starting to work back into northern Ohio for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday we will not rule out showers down to the US 30 corridor, but see nothing farther south. We think these will be developing along and north of a warm front that lifts into the state for next weekend. Then better rains work in as low pressure finally arrives with the associated cold front to start next week. Rains out of the event will be half to 1.5” with coverage at 70%.Dry next Tuesday through Thursday. The extended 11-16 day window starts with strong high pressure over the great lakes, and it could keep us dry through the entire extended period. A strong front approaches from the west around the 9th.Temps still look to move lower here in the short haul. After the rains later today through Wednesday, we should see temps move to normal and below normal levels to finish the week. Then a slight bump in temps for the weekend as the warm front lifts through, followed by another push back to near normal behind the early week front next week. Concern about potential frost has waned for the time being…and we think seasonal temps are better positioned to dominate.
Related Posts Silverlight OnlyMicrosoft decided to use Silverlight as the one and only way to access the visual search feature. At this point, Weitz argued when we asked him about this choice, Silverlight is already widely installed on millions of computers and Microsoft decided that the experience will not degrade gracefully if you don’t have Silverlight installed.Useful or Just a Gimmick? While Visual Search might look like a gimmick at first (and it definitely is an interesting visual feature), it actually turns out to be a very usual feature for most of the searches that currently support it. The range of searches that allow you to visualize the results is still somewhat limited, though Microsoft will surely add on to this list over time. If anything, this is yet another feature in Bing that Google doesn’t offer yet. As Bing tries to position itself as a ‘decision engine’ and not just as a search engine, this is also another feature that will help Microsoft to make this distinction. Instead of a list of links, Bing can now offer a set of faster and more visually pleasing search results TopicsHere is a list of current topics that will pop up Visual Search as an option: frederic lardinois 100 heroes and villainsBillboard’s past albumsBillboard’s past songsFilm legendsGreatest moviesMovies in theatersPopular books Popular celebritiesPopular DVDsPopular TV showsPulitzer winning fictionTop albumsTop songsFamous PeopleFBI’s most wantedPopular celebritiesUS politiciansUS presidentsUS vice presidentsWorld leadersReferenceDog breedsPeriodic tableTravel destinationsUS politiciansUS presidentsUS statesUS vice presidentsWorld leadersYoga posesShoppingCell phonesDigital camerasHandbagsHDTVsNew carsPopular booksPopular DVDsPortable GPSPulitzer winning fictionTop albumsTop iPhone appsSportsMLB playersMLB teamsNASCAR driversNBA playersNBA teamsNFL playersNFL teamsNHL playersNHL teamsUFC fighters Since Microsoft launched Bing, the company has been trying to position it as a ‘decision engine’ and not just as another search engine. Today, Microsoft is taking another step in this direction with the launch of Visual Search in Bing. For a growing number of searches, instead of giving users a list of 10 blue links, Bing will now give users the option to visualize the search results on a 3D grid with icons or photos. Now, for example, if you search for ‘Top iPhone Apps,’ Bing will not just present a list of links to other sites but also provide the option to show you those iPhone apps directly in Bing, with the added ability to filter them by price, category, or publisher.Microsoft is definitely trying to change the playing field with Bing and today’s updates show that Microsoft still has a few surprises up its sleeves. Searches for NFL and MLB players, for example, or movies, digital cameras, or US presidents now feature the option to see the results on a nicely designed grid. Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Tags:#Microsoft#news#NYT#web Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… FiltersThis visualization, while visually quite stunning, wouldn’t be very interesting though, if Microsoft hadn’t also added the ability to quickly narrow searches by relevant categories. If you search for ‘digital cameras,’ for example, you get the option to narrow your search by number of megapixels, optical zoom, or brand. Baseball players can be organized by position, team, or salary, and criminals on the FBI’s ‘Most Wanted’ list can be organized by reward, citizenship, or the crime they are wanted for.Overall, these visual elements can really make some searches a lot easier, especially if you are starting out with a broad category and you are trying to narrow your search down (try ‘yoga poses,’ for example). As Stefan Weitz, Microsoft’s Director of Bing, told us last month, for some queries, visual results are simply much easier to scan for users than simple lists of texts. At the end of your work with the visual search interface, however, you are still taken back to a regular Bing search. Quad/Graphics announced this week it’s buying Brown Printing from parent company Gruner + Jahr for $100 million. The deal expands Quad’s magazine and catalog printing business. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2014, and will be accretive to earnings, the company says. Funding will come from a combination of cash on hand and a revolving credit facility. Brown’s projected 2014 revenues are $350 million, and Quad says the purchase price is less than 4-times adjusted EBITDA. “This acquisition will enhance the many ways we help publishers and marketers drive top-line revenues while better controlling their overall total cost of product and distribution,” says Joel Quadracci, Quad/Graphics’ chairman, president and CEO, in a statement. “With print as our foundation, we will continue to find innovative ways to connect and integrate print with other media channels to increase reach, response and return on investment.”Standard & Poor’s isn’t so impressed with the deal. The ratings service downgraded Quad’s credit rating to a “BB-” from a “BB” because the acquisition edges Quad past the 3x leverage multiple to 3.2x. Also, S&P is spooked by Quad’s 4.5 percent revenue slide in 2013, along with its reliance on print-based revenues which are still 90 percent of total—prompting a financial risk profile adjustment from “intermediate” to “significant.”
