Boost Your Profit MarginA profit margin isn’t strictly reserved for businesses; it also applies to you. “By increasing the gap between what you earn and what you spend, you end up with a profit in exactly the same way a business earns a profit,” said J.D. Roth of personal finance blog MoneyBoss.com. “This profit can then be used to pursue your long-term financial goals.”To specifically reach a million bucks, you’ll need to boost your savings rate substantially more than the normal 5 percent to 15 percent, said Roth. He suggested saving half of your income, and noted that you’ll have to make hard choices of deferring present spending in exchange for future financial success. For two-income families, he suggested choosing to live on one income, and saving and investing the other salary. continue reading »
The goal of the profession and the Government is to activate and employ the domestic labor force. A more appropriate solution for employers in tourism is a domestic worker for whom there is no need for demanding administration, providing accommodation if it is someone from the local area, and which completes the authentic experience in Croatia for the end guest. “We certainly welcome measures such as dual education, the promotion of vocational occupations in tourism and a possible future reduction in the wage burden as well as tax relief in tourism that would ensure more competitive wages for those in the EU, but we need help now., “Said Žgomba and added that an urgent solution is needed by approving an additional quota of foreign workers for tourism because we are questioning the viability of the branch that carries over 20 percent of GDP. RESPONSE OF THE MINISTRY OF LABOR AND PENSION SYSTEM TO THE EMPLOYER’S APPEAL IN TOURISM: EMPLOYERS CONTACT CES RELATED NEWS: The appeal for the workers was joined by travel agencies, which emphasize if workers fail to reach an agreement with several employers, that they should be deleted from the CES records because they represent a brake on the employment of those who really want to work – UHPA and UPA HGK point them out. “We ask the CES to send those 4.000 unemployed, of which 1.600 on the coast, who are available for work in the season and have expressed a desire to work in the season, immediately and within three days to employers in tourism who lack labor, and if not manage to reach an agreement with several employers, please delete them from the CES records because they are a brake on the employment of those who really want to work”Said Boris Žgomba, president of the Association of Travel Agencies of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce. HUT AND HUP APPEAL: URGENTLY MAKE A DECISION TO INCREASE QUOTAS BECAUSE THERE ARE NO WORKERS AND THE SEASON IS IN DANGER UPA HGK and UHPA are leading professional associations in tourism that represent the interests of over 1800 registered companies for the activities of travel agencies and tour operators, employ over 6 thousand people and contribute to the realization of approximately 15 million overnight stays. Travel agencies also joined the appeal for workers, and due to the burning problem of labor shortage, Croatian tourism is threatened by the impossibility of opening part of the facilities, as well as the deterioration of the quality of service. “Tourism is still an industry of experiencing and transmitting local experience, and man is the key to success in tourism,Fain emphasizes. However, we have been facing for a long time that there are no such workers, and the structural solutions that are being implemented or announced are solutions that will give results in a longer period of time. WILL WE FINALLY INTRODUCE THE SLOVENIAN MODEL FOR IMPORTING FOREIGN WORKERS FROM NEXT YEAR? Insane technical problems with the registration of foreign workers The lack of quality and qualified workforce and the consequent decline in the quality of service in the hotel and catering industry will also be felt by travel agencies, whose quality of offer largely depends on that of other actors in tourism. They have the same attitude in the Association of Travel Agencies of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (UPA of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce). Both professional associations welcome electronic applications, but administration remains a problem. The processing of applications for the employment of a foreign worker takes several weeks, which is too long, especially for facilities where the season lasts only 12 weeks. “Professional associations support the efforts of the Government and the Ministry of Labor and Pension System, as well as activities such as Tourism Job Day, providing retirees with part-time work and increasing quotas in 2019, but as these measures do not solve the problem because over 5 workers are missing“Points out Tomislav Fain, President of the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA)

China is forging ahead in the race to develop a vaccine to help control the COVID-19 pandemic, with Sinovac Biotech’s experimental vaccine set to become the country’s second and the world’s third to enter final stage testing later this month. While a laggard in the global vaccine industry, China, where the new coronavirus is thought to have originated, has brought state, military and private sectors together in a quest to combat a disease that has killed over 500,000 people worldwide. Many other countries, including the United States, are coordinating closely with the private sector to try to win the vaccine development race, and China faces many challenges. Its success in driving down COVID-19 infections makes it harder to conduct large-scale vaccine trials, and so far only a few other countries have agreed to work with it. After past vaccine scandals, Beijing will also have to convince the world it has met all safety and quality requirements. But China’s use of command economy-type tools is so far yielding results.A state-controlled entity, for example, completed two vaccine plants at what it called the “war time speed” of a couple of months, while state-owned enterprises and the military have allowed experimental shots to be used on staff. The People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) medical research unit, which has been a driving force in China’s efforts to fight infectious diseases, is also working with private firms including CanSino to develop COVID-19 vaccines. Challenging the West’s traditional dominance of the industry, China is behind eight of the 19 vaccine candidates in human trials, with Sinovac’s experimental shot and one jointly developed by the military and CanSino among the front runners. It is also focused mainly on inactivated vaccine technology – a technology that is well known and has been used to make vaccines against diseases such as influenza and measles – something which could raise the chances of success.By contrast, several Western rivals such as US-based Moderna and Germany’s CureVac and BioNTech are using a new technology called messenger RNA that has never before yielded a product approved by regulators.’Tried and true'”It’s a tried and true strategy,” said Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, about inactivated vaccine technology.”If I had to pick a vaccine that I think would be the most likely to be safe and effective, it would be that one,” he said. Offit is also co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq, manufactured by Merck & Co Inc.Four of the Chinese candidates in human trials are inactivated vaccines, including Sinovac’s and two vaccines from China National Biotec Group (CNBG), a unit of state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm). There are currently only two experimental COVID-19 vaccines in final Phase III trials – one from Sinopharm and another from AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. Sinovac’s is set to become the third later this month. To speed up the process, China allowed Sinopharm and Sinovac to combine Phase I and Phase II trials for their vaccine candidates. For CanSino’s experimental vaccine, the PLA research institute played a key role, with the two working on a method using an adenovirus – a similar approach to AstraZeneca’s.The PLA has its own approval process for “military specifically-needed drugs”, and approved the military use of the candidate developed by its research unit and CanSino last month.PLA lead scientist Chen Wei, who has been the face of its vaccine development effort, was among the first to take the experimental COVID-19 shot developed by her team, as well as its potential SARS treatment years before, according to state media.ChallengesChina has challenges, though, as the epidemic has petered out in the country, hampering efforts to conduct large trials. It has since shifted its focus overseas, but only a handful of countries have shown willingness to collaborate – UAE, Canada, Brazil, Indonesia and Mexico. Neither major European countries nor the United States have shown interest in China’s COVID-19 vaccines as they focus on their own projects.China must also address concerns over its vaccine quality and safety issues following several scandals over substandard vaccines in recent years.”The Chinese national regulatory authority has been improving its oversight,” said Jerome Kim, head of the International Vaccine Institute, a non-profit agency established as an initiative of the UN Development Program.China introduced a law last year to regulate the vaccine industry, with heavier penalties for selling and making fake or low-quality vaccines than other drug products. The increase in infections has raised the downside risks to the economic outlook and suggests the reopening of the US economy may be more protracted than many initially anticipated, Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester said in a speech for the Liberal Arts Macroeconomics Conference. The rising case load offers “a stark reminder that there are several different scenarios that could play out,” Mester said.Jobless Americans and state and local governments will need more aid to make it through the crisis, Kaplan said. Lawmakers missed a deadline last week for extending a US$600 weekly supplement to state unemployment benefits, and are in the midst of negotiating another round of stimulus.“I believe the economy needs a continuation of the unemployment benefits,” Kaplan said. “It may not need to be in the same form as it currently is, but we need a continuation.” A resurgence in coronavirus cases is slowing the economic recovery and the pandemic will continue to weigh on the US economy and American life for longer than initially expected, three Federal Reserve policymakers said on Wednesday. The US economy began to grow in May and June after taking a monumental hit beginning in March. But growth stalled in July as infections spiked in some parts of the country, leading to fresh restrictions, US central bankers said.“The issue with the resurgence in the virus is it slowed down or somewhat muted the recovery we’ve been expecting,” Robert Kaplan, the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank president, said in an interview with CNN. Mester also said more fiscal support is needed to bolster struggling businesses, households and consumers, and she said she was hopeful that Congress will pass a stimulus bill.“The country has a responsibility to help them over that, to bridge that period, until we can get the economy going again,” Mester said during the webinar. While US economic growth slowed in July, it could pick up in the third quarter and reach pre-pandemic levels by the end of next year, Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Richard Clarida said on CNBC.“It will take some time, I believe, before we get back to the level of activity that we were in February before the pandemic hit,” Clarida said.Clarida said his personal forecast for the economy hasn’t changed because of the recent resurgence of the virus in the United States, since the economic momentum from May through early July was stronger than he expected. He also expects support from another fiscal package should even things out.Kaplan forecast that for the 2020 full year, the economy will contract by 5 percent, while Mester forecast a contraction of 6 percent, from the end of 2019.Fed officials pledged at their policy meeting last week to do what they can to help the economy rebound from the recession that began in February as the coronavirus outbreak spread across the globe. The US central bank has cut interest rates to near zero and rolled out roughly a dozen emergency programs to backstop financial markets and support businesses.Asked about the tepid use of the Fed’s Main Street Lending Program, which is designed to help small and mid-sized businesses, Clarida said the facilities are meant to serve as backstops and that officials are open to changing the program if needed to reach more businesses.“I do expect activity in the program to pick up,” Clarida said. “We’re focused on the goal of supporting the economy and if we need to adjust our programs we will do so.”Mester also said Wednesday that she supports making more adjustments to the Fed’s facilities if needed. “Given the nature of this shock to the economy, I’d be prepared to take more credit risk than I would have been in the past,” Mester told reporters.Topics :

World heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder claims he has agreed to fight Britain’s Anthony Joshua in the UK.The American, 32, holds the WBC title and wants a unification bout with Joshua, the WBA, IBF and WBO champion. He tweeted: “The $50m offer for him to fight me next in the US is still available. Today, I even agreed to their offer to fight Joshua next in the UK.” Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports he will send the contracts but wonders if Wilder’s claim is “bluster”.He added: “It’s all come as a bit of a shock that Deontay’s finally come back to us on the offer and seems to accept the terms.“One thing I can tell you is that by the end of this week Deontay Wilder will have a contract in front of him and we’ll see if he’s real.”Hearn has previously criticised the Wilder team for appearing to do their business via social media, insisting “deals are made in the boardroom, not on Instagram”.“If he prefers the fight in the UK, the ball is in their court. It’s up to them to choose,” Wilder added.Wilder’s Manager, Shelly Finkel, told ESPN they had officially accepted terms to a fight in the UK.He said: “Deontay sent an email to Joshua (Sunday night), and I sent one (Monday) to Barry Hearn and Eddie telling them that we officially accept the offer to fight under the terms they gave us and to send us the contract.”Should Joshua, 28, fight the American next, the winner would become the first heavyweight to hold all four recognised world titles at once.Russian Alexander Povetkin is the WBA’s mandatory challenger and is close to a deal to fight Joshua, although Joshua could face Wilder first if Povetkin is able to fight the winner.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram
A statement reads, “Police Chief Dale Engle was placed on administrative leave pending further review of allegations brought forward by the Fraternal Order of Police. The allegations will be investigated in accordance with the Town’s Equal Employment Opportunity compliance policy by outside counsel.” A high-ranking member of law enforcement in South Florida is under investigation.Davie Police Chief Dale Engle has been placed on administrative leave over allegedly disparaging remarks about the sexual orientation of a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy who died earlier this month from complications of COVID-19.The Broward County Fraternal Order of Police says that Engle claimed the death of BSO Deputy Shannon Bennett was partially due to his “homosexual lifestyle.”Mike Tucker, chief of staff of the Florida Fraternal Order of Police, sent a letter to the Davie town manager last Tuesday. Tucker’s letter said that officers and service aides who expressed worry about the virus were sent to a back parking lot. Here, Engle “allegedly berated them, and yelled about a ‘…backstory’ which proclaimed that Deputy Shannon Bennett contracted and died from the virus because he was a “homosexual who attended homosexual ‘sexual’ events.”Bennett, who was a 12-year veteran of the BSO, was gay and was planning to marry his partner in December. He died at a hospital on April 2, according to officials, after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.Late Saturday night, a spokesperson for the Town of Davie confirmed that Engle has been placed on leave.
